Mark Baughman’s WORKING THEORY builds on the tradiUons of arUsts as varied as The Who, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Rush and Pink Floyd. The band moves effortless between genres from blues to alt-rock to jazz to for and back to straight-ahead rock. The original music wrien by lyricist, composer and musician Mark Baughman. is characterized by well-cra^ed lyrics that tell meaningful stories about people and modern life. The Working Theory is Mark’s 6 piece stage band that brings the recordings to life with virtuoso musicianship in a mulU-media event. As The Ark of Musicsaid in its review of the band’s most recent album, No Prophet Here: “You can hear both the soul and skill Mark Baughman pours into every track on this project. And he’s surrounded himself with the most complementary team to back him up and breathe life and even more musical brilliance into his work. You won’t find a combinaUon of thoughcul songwriUng and explosive music in this genre that’s more impressive than the work coming from Mark Baughman’s Working Theory right now.” And Sleeping Bag Studios’sreview of the same album: “One of MBWT’s greatest assets is the storytelling nature of these songs and the poeUc lyricism to be found – not only is it all incredibly well detailed & compellingly cra^ed, but Mark proves Ume & Ume again to be fearless when it comes to all that he’s willing to include in his imagery & words.” Mark has wrien and recorded 4 rock operas, starUng with 2015’s 99-A Rock Opera,which tells a modern love story with the backdrop of poliUcal acUvism, where it seems that every issue in contemporary life is a call to take sides. In July 2017 Mark’s second rock opera, Release, was produced as part of the DC Fringe Theater FesUval. Release – A Rock Operatells the story of Amy – an African American medical corps veteran suffering from PTSD, Thom – a son of privilege who made a stupid mistake and ruined his life, and Patrick – a teenager trapped in his auUsUc world. All three live their own forms of an alienated lives and find each other in a Wyoming mental clinic where they discover that they may be able to help each other get back into the bigger world. In 2019 Mark produced his third rock opera/musical – Energie– the story of a theoreUcal physicist who has made a world-changing discovery and the struggles he has bringing it to proof. In 2020 Mark completed his fourth rock opera/musical enUtled Victoria Fallsabout an American blues band that gets stranded in central Africa on their way to playing a bucket-list show. Mark has also released two independent albums of songs - Charmed Life andShe Dreams of the Ghost.
