Work/Cited: Stories from the Archives of The New York Public Library

Archives are laboratories for new knowledge.  And what better way to explore this concept than to hear from three authors who have recently completed research for their books in The New York Public Library’s Brooke Russell Astor Reading Room for Manuscripts, Archives, and Rare Books?  In this panel discussion, Alicia Cheng (This Is What Democracy Looked Like: A Visual History of the Printed Ballot), Lauren Santangelo (Suffrage and the City: New York Women Battle for the Ballot) and Scott Stern (The Trials of Nina McCall: Sex, Surveillance, and the Decades-Long Government Plan to Imprison 'Promiscuous' Women) will discuss their scholarship and experience working with the Library’s special collections, including the challenges, rewards, and unexpected surprises they encountered along the way.

For free events, we generally overbook to ensure a full house. Priority will be given to those who have registered in advance, but registration does not guarantee admission. All registered seats are released shortly before start time, and seats may become available at that time. A standby line will form one hour before the program.
