Upstairs/Downstairs: From Top to Bottom
The Upstairs/Downstairs Tour is perfect for those wishing to experience all of the Mansion in one visit. This guided tour is about an hour and a half long. It begins by covering the first and second floors of the mansion, spanning approximately 16 rooms, providing visitors with a rare glimpse of the lavish decorative arts and furniture remaining from the previous owners of Lyndhurst. In this part of the tour, you will visit rooms like the Mansion`s Parlor, filled with furniture designed by architect A.J. Davis, the opulent Grand Picture Gallery with an original collection of European paintings, and impressive Tiffany stained glass windows.
Visitors can then expect a rare glimpse of the Mansion as they climb to the observation tower with panoramic views of the Hudson River and Manhattan. You will then descend the backstairs to view the Butler’s Suite and the extensive basement kitchen rooms, before exiting through the servants’ dining room and visiting the c.1911 Laundry Building, complete with original fixtures.
Please be advised that because of its physical demands, this tour is not recommended for individuals with limited mobility. This tour is also not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
Tour ticket holders do NOT need to purchase a Daily Grounds Pass, as tour tickets include grounds access.
All visitors must have a pre-purchased ticket to enter the Mansion. A limited number of tickets are available for each tour; tickets do sell out.
All ticket purchases are non-refundable.
In order to best accommodate groups and special needs, please call in advance to make a reservation at 914-303-6844.
