UA-WiSE BTA InnovatHERS in AI & Healthcare

The Black Tie Affair (BTA) hosted by University of Alberta Women in Science and Engineering (UA-WiSE) is a formal event featuring inspiring speakers, Q&A, networking, dinner, door prizes, activities and live entertainment. This event is for anyone interested in learning more about leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Aiming to empower participants in the pursuit of their goals in STEM fields, the BTA presents an incredible opportunity for establishing new relationships amongst peers and professionals.

This year, our keynote speakers will be Dr Samina Ali, Professor of Pediatrics and Adjunct Professor of Emergency Medicine, a practicing pediatric emergency physician, the research director for the division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, the Chair of Pediatric Emergency Research Canada, and the Western Canadian hub co-lead for solutions for kids in pain; Dr. Bei Jiang, Associate Professor with the University of Alberta’s Mathematical and Statistical Sciences department, her research interests include statistical analysis and statistical machine learning to decode complex health data; Dr. Mi-Young Kim, who completed a PhD in computer science, is currently an Assistant Professor of Computing Science and co-organizer of the International Competition on Legal Information Extraction/Entailment. Her research interests include natural language processing in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and explainable AI.
