Three Divas Elisabeth Linley English Nightingale

This year's George and Elie Warburg concerts of the Four Nations Ensemble is focused on three Divas, muses to composers and librettists of the 18th Century. Our first is dedicated to Elizabeth Ann Linley, painted by Gainsborough, sister to the young violin virtuoso and wife of the playrite Sheridan.  She was known as the English Nightingale and lived among the most elegant, exquisite galant composers of the mid 18th century including J.C. Bach.  This program offers songs written for her and a panorama of London's musical life in her time.
