The Stu Weissman Project - Featuring Mary Ramsey
Guitarist Stu Weissman has been on the local music scene since the early 1970s and while often considered first and foremost as a jazz guitarist he is also conversational in the blues and funk genres as well. Originally from NY City he came to Buffalo in 1969 andhas been a fixture in the jazz scene since his arrival. His earlier years saw him playing mostly on Buffalo’s East Side where he performed with his mentor and friend (guitarist) James Clark. Stu, one of the region’s most versatile jazz guitarists will be featuring Buffalo's beloved Mary Ramsey. The indie-rock world may know her as the vocalist for the post-Natalie incarnation of 10,000 Maniacs, but the violist, violinist, vocalist, and songwriter has had a long and distinguished career aside from that group playing jazz, classical, and folk music. Mary Ramsey was born in Washington D.C. She has been playing the violin since age 5, has worked with the Erie Philharmonic, founded the Lexington String Trio. Mary has been performing in her critically acclaimed folk duo, John and Mary. She continued to expand her musical horizons when she stepped up to the plate and replaced Natalie Merchant in 1995 as the lead singer and songwriter of 10,000 Maniacs.
