Music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse
Performed outdoors in the beautiful Greek Theatre!
Inspired by the story of the Von Trapp family, this beloved musical is set in Austria on the eve of the German Nazi takeover in 1938. Young Maria becomes governess to a large family as she considers whether to become a nun. Falling in love first with the children and then their widowed father, she and the family courageously stand up together against the Austrian fascists. Bursting with music that stirs the human heart, the show includes "Do-Re-Mi," "My Favorite Things," "Edelweiss," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," and the title song - "The Sound of Music."
