The American Dream

HartBeat Ensemble’s Youth Play Institute presents

THE AMERICAN DREAM (or the lies of it all)

HartBeat’s Youth Play Institute (YPI), now in its 18th year, is a paid internship program in acting, playwriting, theater design or stage management for young adults between the ages of 16 and 21; a program where youth are developing and expressing their perspectives about social justice and engaging in their lives through a political lens.

This fall 2024 group is inquiring about the American Dream (and the lies we’ve been told) and beginning their research & writing process. What do we want for ourselves? Who can afford the dream we are told to aspire to? Who’s land was taken away in the process? Is violence really the answer?

Join us Dec 13-14 for their live presentation and a call to action about the land we live on and the dreams we seek.

Running Time: 50 minutes

These performances are supported in part by the J. Walton Bissell Foundation, Department of Economic and Community Development, CT Office of the Arts, CT Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, and Travelers.
