***SOLD OUT*** Urban and nature meet within the glass walls of the Allan Gardens Conservatory.

Avant-garde legend, Phew, joins the Music Gallery as part of their cross-Canada tour for night one of X Avant XIX: TeXture. Supported by local artists, Charles Spearin and C.G. De Minico, gravelly industrial textures crunch, loop, vocalize, and ring alongside the organic within the glass walls of the Allan Gardens Conservatory.

A key figure in the Japanese underground, Phew first became known for fronting Aunt Sally, one of Osaka’s earliest punk groups and a cult classic. Over forty years, she has made and continues to produce singular, sharply-guided music that has influenced experimental and avant-garde music across the world.

Joining Phew, tiny noises converge into a sonic landscape as Charles Spearin presents Music for 32 Phones Played Simultaneously for a session on sharing music. C.G. De Minico (aka C.G. Mayfly, DJ Chris) punctures the night with a sample heavy live set. 

As part of opening night fun and in support of our friends at the Allan Gardens, plants will be on sale during the show.

Ticketing: Our new ticket type invites you to Pay What You Can Afford (PWYCA) which means that you can choose an appropriate level and where possible, help to offset community members attending at a discounted rate. Levels are decided by you based upon your income and financial flexibility and are not verified at the door.
