Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture is pleased to present The Prescription, a lecture series exploring the emerging science that connects how food is grown with our personal health. Leading thinkers in this space will join us for timely and crucial conversations about the relationships among soil, taste, nutrition, bacteria and our brains.
Join us on May 12 for a talk by David R. Montgomery and Anne Biklé, authors of The Hidden Half of Nature, on the microbiome.
Few know of the striking similarities between the root of a plant and the human gut and how the microbial world underpins the well being of both. Montgomery and Biklé will share their journey of discovery, which begins in their Seattle backyard. Faced with the challenge of dead dirt while building a garden, they soon find themselves at the frontlines of a scientific revolution sweeping through agriculture and medicine.
Explorer Ticket holders will experience the farm like never before. Before the lecture, taste the season with passed hors d'oeuvres prepared by Blue Hill at Stone Barns; take a hayride out onto the farm; engage with our farmers; have a book signed by David and Anne; and discover what resilient agriculture can teach us about our own bodies and health.
Explorer experience begins at 6:00 pm. Lecture starts at 7:30 pm.
