Join the New York Public Library and the Literary Freedom Project for a screening and discussion of Nikki Giovanni's 1971 Soul! interview with James Baldwin at Bronx Library Center.
The wide-ranging conversation explores Black life in America, the struggle for racial justice, and evolving gender roles while also offering insight into the work and artistic process of two literary icons.
In London in 1971, Soul!, a performance & variety television program that showcased and celebrated Black music, dance and literature, hosted an interview between 28 year old acclaimed poet Nikki Giovanni, and writer and activist James Baldwin, then 46.
This interview went on to become known as a timeless discussion of justice, freedom, morality, and what it means to be an empowered human being.
Please join us at Bronx Library Center for a screening of this legendary interview followed by a talkback discussion lead by Literary Freedom Project.
