Academy Award winning, British filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) brings us a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire. Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, first-year student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to spend the summer at Saltburn, his family’s sprawling estate. Oliver has no idea what to expect when he arrives. It’s a world unlike any he has ever known and beyond anything he’s imagined. Oliver proves to be a quick study in the rules, the people, and the chances to make good on this once-in-a-lifetime experience, as he gets to know each of Saltburn’s eccentric and decadent residents, including Elspeth Catton, Felix’s mother, the imperious former It Girl perfectly portrayed by Rosamund Pike; her aristocrat husband, Sir James (Richard Grant); Venetia, Felix’s lost soul sister, and Academy Award winner Carey Mulligan in a memorable performance as Poor Dear Pamela. It turns out everyone living at Saltburn is as fascinated by Oliver as Oliver is by them. For all, it’s a summer never to be forgotten. Q & A with Emerald Fennell, recipient of MFF’s Agnes Varda Trailblazer Film Artist Award, following screening.
