Pride Rocks PGH w/ Toni Braxton

The Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh, the leading non-profit advocacy organization for the LGBTQ community, welcomes the distinctive, sultry vocals of seven-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist Toni Braxton on Saturday, June 8.

With such timeless hits such as “Love Shoulda Brought You Home,” “Another Sad Love Song,” “Breathe Again,” “Seven Whole Days,” “Un-Break My Heart” and “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” few artists ever ascend to the rarefied heights of “legend,” “icon,” “songstress” and “diva" as Toni Braxton does.

Braxton's 1993 self-titled debut album, which is now 8x platinum, garnered the singer the first three of her seven Grammy Awards, including best new artist. Braxton, who began singing professionally in the 80s with her three sisters as The Braxtons, has since banked an enviable number of career-defining moments. Between 1996 and 2010, she released six more solo albums (Secrets, The Heat, Snowflakes, More Than a Woman, Libra and Pulse) and charted a string of hits (including “You Mean the World to Me,” “You’re Makin’ Me High” and “I Love Me Some Him”/ “I Don’t Want To”) before teaming with Babyface 2014 for the critically acclaimed duets album that won her a seventh Grammy for Best R&B Album.

In March of 2018, Toni released her ninth studio album, Sex & Cigarettes. It’s her first studio album since Love, Marriage & Divorce, and her first solo album in nearly a decade. The album earned Braxton three Grammy Award nominations: Best R&B Album, and Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for the single "Long as I Live."

Along the way, Braxton reinvented her game as she effortlessly segued into a theatrical acting career in 1998 as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. That barrier-breaking portrayal—the first black woman to play a leading role in a Disney Broadway production—led to a stint in a second Disney Broadway musical, Aida, and later a special guest star engagement with another Broadway musical, After Midnight.

Since then, Braxton has starred in three TV films for Lifetime including Twist of Faith, Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart (adapted from her same-titled best-selling memoir) and, most recently, Faith Under Fire: the Antoinette Tuff Story.  Her fourth Lifetime movie 'Every Day Is Christmas,' premieres November 24. 

In between, she and her three sisters have become popular reality stars via WE tv’s flagship series Braxton Family Values, now in its sixth season.

Opening for Toni Braxton is Rina Sawayama, a Japanese-British singer/songwriter and model who identifies as pansexual. She has quickly become an important figure in the LGBTQ community, unapologetically embracing her queer identity with empowering ferocity. Her 2018 track “Cherry” explores her sexual identity and “features several people of color queer dancers fully embracing their femininity as that’s something you don’t see. The movement is based around the struggle of coming to terms with what society has told you is wrong, but in the end is a justified feeling.”

There will be several full-service bars available serving all the popular libations (so be sure to bring your ID), as well as numerous food options to satisfy your every food craving. 

To attend the event, you must be 18 or older or accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 25. The concert is standing room only. 

BAG POLICY:  In recent years the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh has enhanced its comprehensive safety plans with additional measures such as pat downs and bag checks.  We have consulted with our local, state and national law-enforcement partners as well as industry experts to develop these plans and these public safety measures are being successfully used at other large venues/events with much success.  These guidelines have been prepared to make sure that the Delta Foundation’s events continue to be safe and secure for everyone.

All attendees will be required to enter the event at the ticket gate located at 7th & Ft. Duquesne Blvd. and must adhere to the following bag restrictions:

• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.”


• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).


• Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap, can be taken into the event with one of the clear plastic bag options.


• An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at ticket gate.


• Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, outside beverages, chairs, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.

Smaller items that CAN be carried into the event include binoculars, cameras, and smartphones.

Working personnel, including media, will continue to enter our events through designated gates where they will be subject to screening and bag inspections already in effect for our events.

PROHIBITED ITEMS:  Attendees are NOT PERMITTED to carry-in the following items:

• Any type of non-clear bag exceeding 4.5” x 6.5” in size, including purses, handbags, camera or binocular cases, backpacks, fanny packs, diaper bags, briefcases, luggage and computer bags.


• Apparel or signage displaying culturally sensitive, profane or abusive language


• Alcoholic beverages


• Balls of any kind


• Banners/signs on poles


• Battery operated items


• Cans, coolers of any type, glass bottles or thermoses


• Laser pointers


• Noisemakers


• Selfie Sticks


• Single purpose video cameras or still-photography cameras with a lens longer than 6”


• Strollers or seat cushions


• Weapons/any item that may be deemed to be a projective


• Any other item deemed dangerous or inappropriate

Any item not permitted must be disposed of by the attendee or returned to vehicles as the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh is NOT responsible for items left at the gate.
