A collaborative set featuring original songs and works by Peter Zummo (NYC), Sandro Perri and Sing Leaf. Monday, May 15th at Hotel Wolfe Island. $15/PWYC. Doors at 7pm, show at 8pm sharp.
“An important exponent of the American contemporary classical tradition” Peter Zummo is a composer and trombonist from NYC. He has described his work as “minimalism and a whole lot more.” Pitchfork called Zummo’s music “the sound of sublimity…that sends shivers down the nervous system”. Some of his most familiar work is with cellist /composer Arthur Russell. He has also performed with the Lounge Lizards, Pauline Oliveros, Phill Niblock, Arnold Dreyblatt, Kid Creole, Jon Gibson, Vernon Reid, and “Blue” Gene Tyranny. His most recent work, Deep Drive 2+, was released this spring on Tin Angel Records.
Sandro Perri is “one of the most singular producers in contemporary music.” Over two decades and a dozen releases (on Constellation Records), Sandro Perri has pursued a curious blend of experimental and ‘easy’ listening using acoustic and electronic instruments. His recent solo record, In Another Life, was crowned by Exclaim as an “outsider pop masterpiece” while Pitchfork called it “visionary in both content and form.” He has worked with a wide range of artists including Destroyer, John Oswald and Great Lake Swimmers. He has been nominated twice for the Polaris Music Prize.
Featuring an experimental blend of folk-rock and psychedelic pop that incorporates electronics, Sing Leaf is the project of introspective, innovative songwriter David Como. Signed to forward-thinking UK label Tin Angel Records, he has released 3 full-length albums and a handful of EPs. His latest, Not Earth, was described by Exclaim as “an interstellar vehicle that takes your mind to other worlds.”
