PAX Rising Showcase- 2024 Unplugged

The PAX Rising Showcase is a collection of independent games to be exhibited at PAX Unplugged, taking submissions until midnight on September 6th, 2024.

Submissions are accepted primarily using gameplay videos, and we find that a 5-10 minute video works best with a commentary talking about what's special about the game. Don’t worry too much about how fancy the video is, the judging is always done based on the quality of the game, not the quality of the video.

After we’ve received all submissions, PAX Team will pick our favorites with an eye for content spread out across genres. If your game is chosen, you’ll be invited as a full-fledged exhibitor receiving free booth space and everything you need to demo your game, minus the game itself, and any platform it runs on.  We are also unable to provide travel and lodging.

To be eligible for the PAX Rising Showcase, your development team must be no more than 10 people, the game must not be part of any traditional publisher arrangement, and the game should be far enough along in development to be playable for attendees in time for PAX.

What Happens if You Make it into the PAX Rising Showcase

• Announcement on the PAX site as being selected for The PAX Rising Showcase!


• Details of your game including a paragraph description and screenshot included on our PAX Rising Showcase page.


• Four Expo Hall Badges for PAX Unplugged 2024, giving you access to everything exhibitors receive.


• Space in our PAX Expo Hall for you and your team to demo your game to tens of thousands of gamers, media and industry-folk.

Eligibility for the PAX Rising Showcase

• Your game must be a tabletop game, defined for this purpose as “a game that utilizes physical components and is played on a table." While this is not open to video games, app-integration is allowed.


• Your game must not be a traditional RPG, as due to the never-ending nature of those games, it is virtually impossible for us to properly evaluate such titles.


• Your game must be developed by you (and/or your team) and you must not have an existing publisher agreement in place with any outside company.


• Any funding you receive or have received must preserve your full ownership of the game and IP. (Kickstarter = good, most publisher agreements = bad).


• All games must be in playable form. Beta/prototype components and placeholder art is fine, but the game must be functionally complete and fully playable for attendees of PAX Unplugged.


• Your company and/or development team must not be comprised of more than 10 participants.

SUBMITTING YOUR GAME FOR CONSIDERATION

A. Purchase this $50 entrance fee.
B. Make a video of your game featuring gameplay.
C. Fill out the detail form, including the above video.

Keep in mind we are specifically looking for fun factor and a great gameplay experience. Yes, art and fancy production can certainly affect the experience, but we aren't dishing out individual awards for those categories.  Those selected to be in the PAX Rising Showcase will be notified via email no later than October 18th.

OFFICIAL RULES!
By submitting your game for consideration as an individual or company, you must agree to the following rules and regulations.
A. Keep in mind the PAX Rising Showcase was created for independent games, so if it is discovered you do not meet the requirements you will be automatically disqualified and we will totally be keeping your $50.
B. What you submit as far as intellectual property and/or copyright must be owned by you or the company you are submitting for. If we find you have infringed upon any intellectual property, you will be automatically disqualified, and again, we will totally be keeping your $50.
C. If you are submitting for a company, you must be authorized to do so. No going to the team the day before PAX and yelling surprise! Otherwise, you know what happens. It involves disqualification and us keeping your $50.
D. You understand the decisions made by the judges are final. No whining. No complaining. No crying. No appeals. No calling in favors.
E. You agree that it's okay for PAX and PAX organizers to use pictures, videos, your names, pictures and other assets from your submitted game for marketing purposes.
F. You agree to hold PAX and PAX organizers harmless from any damages or expenses of any kind which arise or are somehow connected with PAX or the PAX Rising Showcase.
G. PAX and PAX organizers can cancel or revoke your submission or PAX Rising Showcase status at any time for any reason whatsoever. This is very unlikely, but we have to say it anyway.
H. If chosen to be in the PAX Rising Showcase, you or a representative must be able to demo the game live at PAX Unplugged 2024 during all open exhibition hours (December 6th - 8th, 10:00am - 6:00pm).
I. In the interest of preserving objective rankings from our team, we do not share specific feedback regarding your game, especially if your title is not selected.

Once you receive your Order Confirmation, please fill out the detail form. If the detail form is not completed completed by Midnight (Eastern) the evening of September 6th, you will be disqualified. If you have any questions, please email prs@paxsite.com.
