Bingata Workshops at Okinawan Festival

Bingata Workshops at the Okinawan Festival by Gusuku Bingata

UPDATE: Thank you for your interest in the Bingata Workshops. All sessions have sold out. If you are interested in joining the waitlist, please arrive at the Bingata Booth at the start time of the desired session and inquire with the designated workshop volunteer. Waitlisted individuals will be given an opportunity to fill any open seat(s) should a registered participant not show up. This will be on a first come, first serve basis for each session.

NOTE THIS IS ONLY TO REGISTER FOR THE BINGATA WORKSHOP WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE OKINAWAN FESTIVAL INSIDE THE HAWAII CONVENTION CENTER EXHIBIT HALL. All registered Bingata Workshop participants will need a separate paid admission ticket to enter the Okinawan Festival for the same date as their workshop time slot. To purchase admission tickets to the Okinawan Festival, visit www.okinawanfestival.com for details.

By registering for the Bingata Workshop you agree to the following:

  • Check in at the Bingata Workshop Booth (inside Exhibit Hall I) at least 10 minutes prior to the start of your session.

  • Have your QR code ready for scanning (either on your phone/mobile device or printed copy).

  • There is a 10-minute grace period once the session starts; late arrivals will forfeit their spot to waitlisted individuals and no refunds or exchanges will be given.

Shingo Yamashiro from Gusuku Bingata in Okinawa will be hosting Bingata dyeing workshops in Hawaii at the Okinawa Festival. Bingata ( 紅型, meaning "red style") is a treasured art of Okinawa which uses traditional stenciled resist dyeing technique. This hands-on mini workshop will teach you the Bingata dyeing technique on a coaster, which you can take home as a unique keepsake.

The Bingata workshops will be held on both days of the Okinawa Festival. Participants will create Bingata designs on coasters, choosing from three different designs. Each workshop will take approximately 50 minutes and is limited to 10 people per session.

To participate, you will need to register online in advance for the workshop. The workshop fee is $20/person, only debit/credit cards accepted. Due to the very limited number of seats for each workshop, only 1 registration will be allowed per person, per time slot. Thank you for your understanding. ALL SALES FINAL, NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES.

Thank you to Gusuku Bingata for their generosity as they are donating the workshop fees to HUOA.
