Hayes-McCausland Theatre, Winnetka Campus

Our Town presents a small town in three acts. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets and gentle humor, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families at the turn of the 20th century.

Director Nina Lynn says, “I have loved Our Town since I was in high school. It was the first play I directed as a novice New Trier teacher in the early 90s and the first play I directed when we reopened the Cornog Auditorium about a decade later. It seemed like the right play to do before I retire in June. I’ve been so lucky to collaborate with a great adult and student team for this production in the beautiful Hayes-McCausland Theatre.

Writing about his Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Thornton Wilder said, “Our Town is not offered as a picture of life in a New Hampshire village or as a speculation about the conditions of life after death. It is an attempt to find a value above all price for the smallest events in our daily life.” I hope that audiences will respond to the humor and humanity of his work.

In addition, I’m honored that Elizabeth Bennett, Music & Theatre Department Chair, and Ed Zwirner, English Department Chair, are offering a book discussion group for New Trier staff. They will be reading Ann Patchett’s Tom Lake, an exquisite story of how a woman’s life was shaped by a high school production of Our Town. I’m looking forward to welcoming the group to our show.

This show runs 2 hours and 15 minutes with an intermission. Tickets are $12 Reserved Seating and are available at newtrier.showclix.com or https://www.showclix.com/event/nt-our-town
