Event Description
Mexican Music, Dance, & Poetry: Zenen Zeferino

This special appearance will feature a conversation, with poetry and music, followed by a performance.

Zenen Zeferino is a master jarana player and improvisational poet from Veracruz, Mexico, who has been a pioneering force in son jarocho music for the last thirty years. Zeferino was a founding member of the legendary band Chuchumbé, in the ’90s; he later performed with Quemayama, as well as his current group, Zenen Zeferino y el Sonoro Sueño. For this special concert, he will be joined by the son jarocho band Radio Jarocho, whose contemporary sound reflects the traditional music from the towns and countryside of Veracruz—a fusion of indigenous, Spanish, and African elements. The accompanying rhythmic dance is an integral part of their exciting live shows.

Live@365 is funded with generous gifts from the Baisley Powell Elebash Fund and the Ford Foundation’s Good Neighbor Committee.
