Ma' Rosa

Directed by Brillante Mendoza, this documentary-style film provides an unbiased and up-close look at the struggle of providing for a family and doing whatever it takes to do so. Rosa and her husband run a convenience store in Manila, but this humble business is not enough to provide for their four children. A side operation of selling crystal meth provides additional funds until Rosa and her husband are caught and put in jail. It is up to her four kids to find the money required to free their parents. Ma Rosa was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Leading actress, Jaclyn Jose, won the award for best actress at Cannes for this performance.
