This edition of the Library After Hours coincides with the opening of The New York Public Library's new exhibition The Awe of the Arctic: A Visual History, a 500-year survey of how explorers and artists have depicted the sublime, beguiling terrains of the Arctic. Join us for curator talks, artist presentations, rare 16mm films, and more!

Special access includes:

• Special talks by the curators of The Awe of the Arctic. 


• Presentations by international artists whose work is featured in the show.


• 16mm films curated from the Reserve Film and Video Collection telling stories of ice, exploration, and photography.


• Performances by violinist Adriana Molello and activities in the Rose Main Reading Room.


• Unique library-related books and gifts in the Library Shop.

Plus: Dance the night away with music by Rimarkable, try your hand at games and puzzles, or relax with crafts and coloring. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

Tickets for this event are Pay What You Wish, with a suggested cost of admission of $15. What you pay benefits The New York Public Library and helps make this event—and others like it—possible. 

If you miss your chance to get a ticket in advance, we may have a limited number of tickets available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Doors will open at our 42nd St entrance and the Marshall Rose Plaza (located at 40th St and 5th Ave) at 7 PM, with final entry at 9:30 PM. Both of these entrances are accessible. 

All tickets are final sale.

Be the first to explore the Library's all-new exhibition, The Awe of the Arctic: A Visual History, which opens at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building the same day as Library After Hours! Discover extraordinary artwork, photographs, prints, and historic materials—drawn almost exclusively from the rich collections of The New York Public Library—that tell the story of how the Arctic has been visually depicted, defined, and imagined over the past 500 years. The presentation ranges from 16th-century explorers who attempted to capture the perceived strangeness of a remote region to contemporary artists whose work conveys the human impact on its changing climate and vulnerable landscape. This venue is fully accessible to wheelchairs (enter at 42nd Street or the Marshall Rose Plaza, located at 40th St and 5th Ave).
