Event Description
Langston Hughes: Harlem’s Jazz Poet

The Harlem Renaissance produced some of our most prolific and powerful cultural figures. Chief among them was Langston Hughes, a novelist, social activist, poet, and musician. Hughes was one of the earliest innovators of a new literary art form called jazz poetry, which emphasized folk and jazz rhythms, giving an air of improvisation to his works. He expressed the struggles of middle class African American life, with its challenges, joys, and music. Hear the force of his words through the power of music.

Parking is available at Eastminster Church (enter lot from Station Street). There is a paid public parking lot located at Sheridan and Harvard Sts. as well as street parking in the neighborhood.
