Book lovers unite! It’s Valentine’s Day, library-style, at the city’s most cerebral happy hour.
This Valentine’s Day, Library After Hours is bringing the love for books and reading. Bring a date, bring your reading buddy, or come solo and search for the book lover of your dreams. Listen to dramatic readings of love poems in the Rose Main Reading Room. Check out a one-night-only special-collections display of our most amorous items. Let a librarian find your perfect new book, strut your brainy stuff in literary trivia, leave a love note to a beloved book, and much more. We’re celebrating our 125th anniversary in 2020, and we want you to kick the party off with us in the most bookish way we know how.
Library After Hours #LoveReading will include:
- Love poems read aloud by Ellen Burstyn (Requiem For a Dream), Paloma Celis Carbajal (NYPL Curator, Latin American, Iberian and Latino Studies), Raúl Esparza (Law & Order, BoJack Horseman), Jessica Hagedorn (Dogeaters, The Gangster of Love), Sonia Manzano (Sesame Street, The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano), David Tomas Martinez (Post Traumatic Hood Disorder, Hustle), and Yanyi (The Year of Blue Water) in the Rose Main Reading Room
- "Picturing Your Love" interactive collections display with items from the Library's Picture Collection
- Librarian-led book matchmaking
- Literary trivia
- Craft unique bookmarks using the Library’s collections
