ALL AGES WELCOME

Award-winning and cherished songbird Kim Churchill rises with his seventh studio album Dawn Sounds.. An earnest ode to the joyous peaks and liberating pits of life’s journey, Dawn Sounds celebrates sentimentality and new beginnings.

A sincere collection of heart-warming and poignant songs, the album is layered with acoustic guitar beds and earthy elements, on a bed of his trademark compelling vocals and storytelling.

Currently in the midst of his biggest home soil tour ever, Kim is plotting his way across all corners of Australia in 2023, in celebration of the new album. The anticipated album has been warmly welcomed by live audiences across the country, as Kim has graced stages with very special previews ahead of its release.

Kim talks through what Dawn Sounds means to him and the serene recording experience; “The album is a collection of songs written across a hundred mornings as the sun arose. I discovered this beautiful quiet time in the world and in my mind to write from. I worked with my dear friend and long time collaborator Chris Collins to produce and record over three mornings in the Byron Hinterland. We opened the doors wide and hung microphones from the tree's. I was also lucky to have another dear friend, Steph Strings sing a duet with me for the second single Please Come Home.”

“I wrote these songs from a place of soft confidence and felt a beautiful calm joy for who I was and a liberated feeling that failure was the mark of a life well lived.”

Featuring his tender string of releases, “Fighter” and “Please Come Home”, Dawn Sounds begins with surf-soaked anthem and recent single, “Come Back Free”. Gently creeping in is “Dawn Sounds”, a melancholy whirl of darkened violins and finger picking before cathartic “Solace Down” offers a silver lining and reminds us there’s hope on the horizon.

Toe-tapper track “Go Try Fall” is a song of encouragement with empowering themes, reminding us to enjoy life’s wild adventures. Inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea is “On Through Time”, before moving into the organic warmth of “Fighter”. Tugging on heartstrings is “Please Come Home” accompanied by the talented and good friend Steph Strings.

Adoring track “Rivermouth” expresses Kim’s love and admiration for his parents, brought to life by soaring vocals and vibrant textures. Stripped-back “Like December” softly conveys the aches of letting go, before an important message of staying true to yourself in “Let You Down”. Rounding out the album is “All That You Want From Me”, an introspective track about love and relationships.

Promising to be a wholesome and captivating evening of story-telling and sing-alongs, Kim is bringing his beloved folk anthems and new gems from Dawn Sounds. Kim says, “Each show will be a beautiful night of story telling, an honest reflection on life as we live it, and a romping high energy one man band show.”

Landing on the scene in 2009, Kim’s laidback folk style continues to strike a chord with industry and fans alike. Playing renowned festivals including Glastonbury Music Festival, Montreal’s International Jazz Festival and South By South West, along with a stack of home grown festivals, Kim’s decade long industry experience spreads far and wide. Raised on the coastal town of Merimbula, the songwriter was previously crowned Australia’s National Youth Folk Artist of the Year and nominated for the National Live Music Awards Roots Act of the Year.
