This is our second year of Kilt Fest NJ, a gathering of Scottish and Irish, Celts and Gaels to celebrate our culture, and this year we have added more. More Bagpipers. Irish Dancers. More Great Bands. More Tents. Kilts are encouraged and pants are optional. Events at Kilt Fest include the Highland Games, a Kilt Run, a Fictional Medieval Battle, Bagpipers, a concert featuring 7 of the best Irish and Scottish bands touring today, including The Druids who are coming here from Ireland, a Beer Garden featuring locally made Celtic Craft Brews, Kilt Contests and great craic in a beautiful setting at the festival grounds in Mercer County Park.
Kilt Fest NJ starts out with the kilt run in the morning at 9am. The run is 2 miles and open to all ages. The only prerequisite is that all runners must wear a kilt. At 10 am, the Central NJ Highland Games begin. Watch world-class athletes toss the caber, hurl the hammer and throw heavy stones for distance and height in this ancient Scottish sport. The athletes will demonstrate and guide any person who wishes to try their hands at the different Highland events including the caber toss. At noon, a battle will take place between two armies who will use real weapons and armor. There will also be a one on one tournament at the end with prizes for the top combatants. Vendors selling Irish and Scottish Food including Haggis and merchandise including kilts.
This is a one of a kind event, open to all who are interested in the history and culture of the 7 Celtic Nations. Don't Miss it.
