By offering meaningful performance opportunities for local and regional talent, as well as attracting nationally acclaimed acts, the festival raises the profile of Central South Carolina as a cultural destination.
About the Lay Quiet Awhile:
Formed in 1986 by brothers Phil and Dan Cook, Lay Quiet Awhile became one of the most interesting indie bands to emerge in the Southeast in the 1990s. Fueled by Danielle Howle’s commanding vocal presence and quirky, hyper-literate lyrics — as well as the Cook brothers’ intricate art-pop arrangements — the band earned a cult following in the early ‘90s and signed to Daemon Records in 1993. In the Trouser Press Guide, Ira Robbins writes, “Delicate Wire, the quartet's sole album, is an eclectic, tasteful blend of folk-pop and electric art-rock filtered through a decorous indie sensibility.” Current lineup: Danielle Howle (vocals), John Furr (guitar), Dan Cook (bass), Troy Tague (drums).
