Hawthorne was born on Brooklyn rooftops with the smell of wet, fallen leaves mixing with asphalt in the air. Hawthorne was born of city dwellers pining for the trees. For the sea. For cold bourbon in smokey southern bars.
Pelham, New York raised singer-songwriter Nat Osborn and Virginia-born vocalist Aimee Bayles worked behind a bar together at an Italian restaurant in Morningside Heights. The first time they sang together they realized they heard melody and harmony in the same way. They’re voices naturally moved in a unique but similar way. Songs that Nat hadn’t previously found a place for found a burning new purpose when Aimee sang them with him. New songs arrived inspired by that connection.
Stu Mahan, the son of a lobster fisherman raised in coastal Maine, came to a video shoot the band did in 2011. He showed up with his bass, sat in and improved a song with his first comment. He was in.
Karna Ray, a Massachusetts native, was introduced to Nat through a mutual friend. Karna’s ability to improvise both delicately and fiercely on the cello floored Nat, who instantly asked him to join the band.
Hawthorne has been working on a debut album for well over a year, it’s due out at the beginning of 2016.
