Get Lit October Book Club: A.M. Homes with special musical guest Laurie Anderson

Join WNYC’s Alison Stewart and A.M. Homes for a live conversation about her first novel in a decade, The Unfolding, followed by a special performance by Laurie Anderson.

The New York Public Library and WNYC—two indispensable New York institutions—are partnering to host a book club that brings New Yorkers together and fosters community.

This month’s read is The Unfolding by A.M. Homes. In a story that is as much about the dynamics within a family as it is about the desire for those in power to remain in power, Homes presciently unpacks a dangerous rift in American identity, prompting a reconsideration of the definition of truth, freedom, and democracy.

Throughout October, All of It host Alison Stewart and the Library will accompany readers, providing touchpoints on-air and on social media at @allofitwnyc and @nypl. Borrow the book (and more than 300,000 others) for free through the Library’s e-reader app SimplyE, available for iOS and Android devices.

Join Stewart, Homes, and readers everywhere for a live conversation, in-person or online, on Thursday, October 27, at 6 PM. The conversation will be followed by a special musical performance by creative pioneer Laurie Anderson, a 2022 Library Lion.

To join in-person | Please be sure to register for an In-Person Ticket. Doors will open around 5:15 PM. For free events, we generally overbook to ensure a full house. Priority will be given to those who have registered in advance, but registration does not guarantee admission. All registered seats are released shortly before start time, and seats may become available at that time. A standby line will form 45 minutes before the program.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A.M. Homes is the author of thirteen books, among them the bestselling memoir The Mistress’s Daughter; the novels This Book Will Save Your Life, The End of Alice, and Jack; and the short story collections Days of Awe, The Safety of Objects, and Things You Should Know. She also writes for film and television and teaches in the Creative Writing Program at Princeton University.

Laurie Anderson is a writer, director, composer, visual artist, musician and vocalist who has created groundbreaking works that span the worlds of art, theater, experimental music, and technology. In recognition of her many achievements, she is a 2022 Library Lion honoree.
