rva dance collective annual spring concert

rva dance collective, the 2010 recipient of the Theresa Pollak Award for Excellence in the Arts, will present their annual spring concert at 8pm on May 19 at the Virginia Commonwealth University Grace Street Theatre. The company's spring performance the past two years in this venue met with acclaimed reviews and a nearly sold out audiences.

Co-artistic directors Danica Kalemdaroglu and Jess Burgess conclude the 2011-12 season with a diverse repertory of modern and contemporary dance. "call to arms" is co-choreographed by rva dance collective directors Danica Kalemdaroglu and Jess Burgess and is a multi-media rally cry to a youth filled generation stuck in the middle of present day sociopolitical unrest. From the global economy to the endless barrage of changing trends in pop-culture, "call to arms" unifies the muffled voices of a generation expected to accept and endure without confrontation. The piece is layered with projected stop action photography by local Richmond photographer, Dave Parrish. The audience will be visually engulfed by the angst of voices unheard.

rva dance collective is also proud to present the choreographic debuts of company members, Ashley Valo and Henry Hill, Jr. Also sharing the stage with rva dance collective will be The Dance Company's student performance group. As company in residence at The Dance Company, rva dance collective strives to continually give students the opportunity to perform in professional capacities. The collective is excited to announce that Becky Radway Dance Projects from New York City will join the performance line-up as well.

As recipients of the 2010 Theresa Pollak Award for Excellence in the Arts, rva dance collective continues to evolve and explore their artistic vision. Creating a concert that is accessible to all audiences not only in terms of artistry but also sheer entertainment.
