“[Her songs] have a breezy pop flavor, gentle grooves, lovely melodies and lyrics that are sweet and personal.” – All About Jazz
We first presented the Dominican-French singer Cyrille Aimée back when her repertoire was mostly Hot Club Jazz, a style she still sings with inimitable style and flair. But she has, to say the least, branched out in recent years and has developed a remarkable multi-award winning, continent-spanning career as a singer, songwriter, lyricist, and educator, while always remaining true to her roots. She grew up in Samoissur-Seine, the location of the annual Django Reinhardt Festival (where, as a teenager, she would sneak out the window at night and mingle and sing with the musicians), in a multi-lingual household full of music where dancing was an everyday activity, soundtracked by the Afro-Caribbean rhythms of the bachata and merengue from her mother’s native Dominican Republic. The result of this extraordinary musical mashup is Cyrille and she is one of those obsession-worthy singers you will want to see perform again and again.
