Artists’ Rights and Creative License
With Lennee Eller and Steve Davis, Esq.
Sacramento has a long-standing history of being home to hundreds of artists and a thriving art scene. In order to help the region’s artists continue to advance, The Crocker Art Museum and California Lawyers for the Arts are proud to present an informative evening focusing on artist’s rights. Join Shelly Willis, former executive director of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission; and Steve Davis, partner at the law firm of Davis and Leonard, in a discussion about the Visual Artists Rights Act, copyright, reproduction, licensing, and work for hire. Whether you are an active artist or just interested in what’s involved in creating and protecting artistic intellectual property, this event will be an engaging and education evening.
Presenters:
Lennee Eller joined the City of Sacramento, Convention and Cultural Services Department in the summer of 2016. Lennée’s goal is to support and collaborate with staff to succeed in our mission to provide exceptional cultural and educational opportunities that enrich the quality of life in the Sacramento region. She currently sits on two nonprofit boards: the Powerhouse Science Center Board and the E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts. Prior to working for the City of Sacramento, Lennee established and directed the Phoenix Airports Museum, home to one of the largest airport art programs in the United States. Its goal is to showcase Arizona's unique artistic and cultural heritage to more than 41 million passengers who travel through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport a year. Lennee has been active in the Museum and nonprofit Arts for more than 30 years. When not being an artist administrator, Lennée is a visual artist. Her work: sculpture, screen prints, drawings and paintings are in private and municipal collections, both nationally and internationally.
Steve Davis, Esq. in partner in the firm of Davis and Leonard, LLP. Mr. Davis' practice encompasses copyright, trademarks, trade secrets, unfair competition, the Internet and e-commerce, and art law, as well as general business formation, finance, and operations. His practice is equally divided in these areas between transactional work, including advice, registration, and drafting contracts, and litigation. Steve has extensive experience in civil litigation in state and federal courts, and has prosecuted misdemeanor and felony criminal cases as a deputy district attorney with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
This event is co-presented by the Crocker Museum.
