Indianapolis Opera presents Carousel at the Indianapolis Zoo under the Bicentennial Pavilion, April 29, 30, and May 1, 2022 (all performances will start at 7pm)

Named by Time magazine as the greatest musical of the 20th century, this 1945 classic was only the second collaboration by the famous duo, but it remains a story for the ages. Carousel is bursting at the seams with well-known numbers, including “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “If I Loved You,” “Soliloquy,” and “June is Bustin’ Out All Over.” The story centers on an unfortunate carousel barker, Billy Bigelow, who falls in love with millworker Julie Jordan. Their romance is met with misfortune, and they are left penniless with a baby on the way.  Billy’s desperation to provide for his unborn child leads him down a dark path with even darker consequences, but he is miraculously given a chance to redeem himself and put things right once more.  This tale of hope and love amid loss and hardship comes at a perfect time for our world.
