A filmmaking couple living in America, Chris (Vicky Krieps) and Tony (Tim Roth), retreat for the summer to the mythical Fårö island, best known as the final retreat of the famed Swedish director, Ingmar Bergman. In this wild, breathtaking Baltic landscape where Bergman lived and shot some of his most celebrated films, they hope to find inspiration for their own creative endeavors. Tony, older and more established than his young wife, has been invited to screen his latest film and settles easily into his work. Chris sets up an office in the mill next to the main house but finds it difficult to concentrate on her latest screenplay. The island is also a destination for cinephiles, who board a bus dubbed the “Bergman safari.” As days spent increasingly separate pass by for the couple, the fascination for the island takes its hold on Chris and memories of her first painful love experience resurface. Lines between reality and fiction begin to progressively blur and tear the couple further apart. With Bergman Island, French filmmaker Mia Hansen Love (Eden,Things to Come) has crafted a beautiful and captivating “film within a film.”,
