Event Description
Mendelssohn's ELIJAH

Composed in the spirit of his Baroque predecessors Bach and Handel, Mendelssohn’s Elijah tells the Old Testament story which provides wonderful effects inviting colorful musical treatment. These include the reviving of the dead son of a widow, an eruption of flames upon an altar, and a terrific storm that arrives to end a devastating drought. The libretto, written by Mendelssohn himself, adds up to a well-rounded portrait of the title character. A brilliant oratorio for full chorus, orchestra and soloists.
