ASL for Artists

This workshop alongside Hands on ASL attempts to bridge the language gap between hearing, Deaf, and Hard-of-hearing artistic communities. With a focus on art and sound ASL vocabulary, attendees will learn ways to express equipment and staging needs with useful phrases such as:

• “Great job”


• “Can you make the light dimmer/ brighter”


• “Could we try that again, but like this…”


• “Is there a green room?”


• “I like that!”

Hands On ASL! offers custom workshops tailored to diverse audiences, and we are thrilled to have Courage facilitate this session. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn basic ASL while exploring the intersection of accessibility, art, and theatre. Courage’s expertise as a multidisciplinary artist and advocate brings a unique perspective on how inclusive practices can transform creative spaces.
