A night of Jazz Guitar: A Retrospective from the 30s to the present.
Guitarist Stu Weissman and multi-instrumentalist Ed Croft are well known in our music community and have often played together in ensembles headed by other artists. Tonight they present a collaboration displaying their respect for the history of jazz and influential guitarists in particular. Primarily known as a bassist, Ed will draw upon his guitar playing and vocal talents as the duo performs selections from the 1930s and on. Included will be compositions and stylings made known by Django Reinhardt, Dick McDonough, Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Larry Carlton, and others. The instruments chosen for each song will reflect the time period as an unamplified archtop and upright bass will be executed on the 30s compositions, electric archtop/upright bass on the traditional jazz pieces, and solidbody guitar and electric bass on the more contemporary offerings. Explanations behind each selection will be (briefly) discussed. Join us for an interesting, informative, and intimate evening.
