Event Description
featuring Morten Lauridsen and a live performance by the USC Chamber Singers
-----------
Recognized as one of the greatest living composers, Morten Lauridsen spends his summers on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest. A National Medal of Arts recipient, his choral opus, Lux Aeterna, received multi-Grammy nominations with performances by the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Polyphony.
Inspired by the silence of nature, Lauridsen composes works of timeless beauty on his island home in the Pacific Northwest. Through the eyes of other composers, conductors, singers and music students, the story of Lauridsen unfolds- and his music is performed- by Volti, Con Anima, SF Choral Society, and Aberdeen (Scotland) University Choral Society, together with soundtracks from Polyphony, the Dale Warland Singers, and The Singers/Minnesota Choral Artists. Filmed in the United States and United Kingdom, 'Shining Night' gives viewers a look into the private life of a most remarkable artist considered a genius in the field of musical creation.
"Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen
illuminates the person behind the music, giving us a rare glimpse into its creative source." -Tim Sharp, Executive Director, American Choral Directors Association
"Morten Lauridsen reaches into his listeners to brighten what is most ancient, sacred, and beautiful in the human soul, and reveals that it lives within each of us. In watching the documentary, I was overcome by the same sensation that I receive from his music: deep and profound gratitude." -Tamsin Smith, Social Entrepreneur and Writer
"An unprecedented look into the mind and heart of a musical genius." -Sofia Dumitru, Producer, KRCB, Sonoma County CA
