The Sleeping Beauty is a ballet in a prologue and three acts, with book written by Marius Petipa and Ivan Vsevolojsky and music composed by the renowned Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (Swan Lake, The Nutcracker).  It was based on Charles Perrault's 1697 fairy tale "The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood".  The first act begins with baby Princess Aurora being christened. The christening was interrupted when the evil fairy Carbosse enters the scene in rage because she was not invited. As a result, she curses the baby by saying that on the princess' 18th birthday; she will get pricked by a needle in the spinning wheel and die. While everyone else was left in chaos, the Lilac Fairy weakens the curse by saying that instead of dying, the princess will fall on a deep slumber for 100 years and will only wake up once a prince kisses her.
