Journey into the exciting world of real pirates and experience true adventures that are more powerful than the stuff of legends!
A National Geographic exhibition, Real Pirates displays genuine artifacts from the Whydah, an 18th century pirate ship that was found off the coast of Cape Cod in 1984 by underwater explorer Barry Clifford. Feast your eyes on priceless treasures of gold and silver—some you can actually touch. Get a close-up look at the real guns and swords they brandished. Even learn the steps pirates took to fire a cannon. Find out what it was like to be true pirate, the code of conduct they lived by and the surprisingly democratic, outlaw society they created. Their stories have been told and retold. Their adventures have filled storybook pages and movie screens. Now, get the true tale of Real Pirates, only at the Portland Science Center.
