Miss Firecracker Contest

Carnelle Scott (known locally as "Miss Hot Tamale") of Brookhaven, Mississippi, wants nothing more than to be crowned “Miss Firecracker” in the beauty pageant at the town's annual Independence Day celebration -a victory that she hopes will salvage her tarnished reputation and allow her to leave town in a blaze of glory. To this end, she has whipped up a talent-show act in which she tap dances and somersaults to ''The Star-Spangled Banner'' while clenching a sparkler in her teeth. The unexpected arrival of her cousin Elain, a former Miss Firecracker winner, Elain's eccentric brother, Delmount, and several other cheerfully nutty characters lead to an evening of unparalleled hilarity, compassion and and a slapstick send-up to Miss America ideals!
