Event Description
Advance tickets can be reserved online until midnight on 10-5. Day-of tickets will be available for $15 at South Side Park starting at 11:30am.
Join us on October 5th for an "Urban Hike" through one of Pittsburgh's most unique neighborhoods, the South Side Slopes.
In its 13th year, some new things are in store for the Pittsburgh StepTrek which begins Saturday, Oct. 5 at 12pm at South Side Park (Josephine & 21st Streets) on the South Side.
The Trek itself is self-guided. The course narrative in the program book points out the landmarks and gives a history of the stairs and buildings, counts the steps (approximately 2,700) and also provides instruction as to the route.
New this year- Orienteering Course
The Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club has created two courses in the Slopes for a meet during StepTrek. Orienteering requires navigational skills using a topographical map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. It's like a treasure hunt in the Slopes; but the orienteer is seeking orange and white numbered markers. For more information on orienteering, visit www.wpoc.org
The family-friendly (and pet-friendly) event also includes the StepTrek Market Place featuring food trucks and entertainment.
StepTrek is what the trekker makes it. Participants may choose to use this noncompetitive event as a test of fitness or a leisurely stroll. The benefits of a stirring walk through the Slopes have earned this event the heart-healthy rating of the American Heart Association.
This event also helps to benefit The Brashear Association's Food Pantry. Please remember to bring a canned food item to help stock the Brashear Association Food Pantry.
Top items needed include:
Peanut Butter & Jelly
Spaghetti Sauce
Tuna
Cereal
Baby Food
