There is perhaps no greater cinematic bond than the tale of a boy and his dog. The novel "Belle et Sébastian" from the 1960s, inspired films, TV shows, and even the name of a Scottish indie band. In this latest adaptation the setting has moved to World War II on the French/Swiss border. Sébastian lives with his grandfather in a mountain village and crosses paths with a giant, filthy Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Their budding friendship is put to the test when Nazis search for Jews and members of the French Resistance. Filmed in 35mm, the French countryside is jaw-dropping in this charming homage to old-fashioned family films.
