Enjoy a special theatrical performance from If Beale Street Could Talk at Bronx Library Center followed by a talkback with performer Channie Waites led by a Lit to Life Teaching Artist.
Literature to Life presents a selection from their Signature Performance of James Baldwin's iconic novel If Beale Street Could Talk. Told from the perspective of its young heroine, this is the story of one family’s fight for justice in a society where institutional discrimination has the power to destroy lives, a theme that resonates today with audiences from all walks of life.

ABOUT LITERARY FREEDOM PROJECT
Launched in 2005, the Literary Freedom Project is an arts organization based in the Bronx that understands the significant role cultural identity plays in the development of intelligent, creative, and engaged communities. These qualities are crucial for the sustenance and strengthening of cultures and can be nurtured through a blend of academic, vocational, and pleasure reading.

Registration is required for this event. Please register for a ticket to attend.
Doors will open at 1:30 PM. The performance will begin at 2 PM, with discussion to follow.
For free events, we generally overbook to ensure a full house. Priority will be given to those who have registered in advance, but registration does not guarantee admission. If you register for multiple tickets, please provide the name of each person who will be attending the event or arrive with your entire party present. Only registered patrons will be granted entry into the event space. All registered seats are released shortly before start time, and seats may become available at that time. A standby line will form 30 minutes before the program.
