Event Description
The Argyle Street Band
wsg
The Ron Davis Combo featuring Sue Kincaid
Sun. July 7 @ 3pm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVMqk8Hjsdk
In the mid-1970's, several Buffalo-area musicians headed west for the epicenter of the industry, Los Angeles. Eventually finding their common musical roots, and taking their name from the street they lived on in Hollywood, Buffalo natives Ron Davis (keyboards), Willie Schoellkopf (guitar & vocals), Doug Morgano (guitars), and Steve Sadoff (bass) returned in 1978 as the newly formed “Argyle Street Band.”
The Emphasis of Argyle was original music. Flavors of R&B, country, & jazz/funk could be heard in their unique, diverse sound.
The Original band, featuring LA session drummer Tommy Walsh (Spyro Gyra, America, Joe Cocker, etc.), will be providing musical memories on Wed. July 7 $10 @ the Sportsmen Tavern, 326 Amherst St.
A reprint of a preview from the Buffalo News on a past show.
Extra! Extra!
Members: Ron Davis (keyboards), Willie Schoellkopf (guitar/ vocals), Doug Morgano (guitar), Steve Sadoff (bass).
Why?: If you care about the history of original music in Western New York then you probably already know the members of the Argyle Street band from the many inspired projects its members have been involved in over the years. Here’s a direct conduit to the Buffalo of the mid-1970s, though, a time when roots music, punk, garage rock, prog-rock and hard rock were all enjoying periods of health and vigor. It was then that Davis, Schoellkopf, Morgano and Sadoff returned from their sojourn in Los Angeles, took their band name from the street they had lived on in Hollywood, and began fine-tuning a swanky blend of rhythm&blues, soul, funk, country and jazz. What emerged was a solid and inventive hybrid, one that helped pave the way for future generations of original roots musicians in our city and its surrounding environs.
