PRIMAL RISING
SISSY / FAUNE / CHAD JACKSON (DJ)
7 November 2014, 8pm till late 10 euro
IMMA’s RISING continues with PRIMAL RISING at the Chapel this Friday night.
Following on from the success of IMMA’ s SUMMER RISING this July, we have another great live night lined up this Friday in the incredible surrounds of the Great Hall and IMMA Chapel. Created in response to a new IMMA exhibition Primal Architecture, we carry the questions of identity, power, authority and non-compliance through to PRIMAL RISING, with rousing sets promised from emerging noise-makers SISSY (a punk garage band that includes members of Complan, Swing Youth and Sept Girls) electronic duo FAUNE (Will St Leger and Sarah Byrne) and iconic Manchester DJ Chad Jackson.
One of the first ever globally known superstar DJs Chad Jackson helped popularise the art of DJ mixing and remixing around the world. One of the first British DJs to start DJ mixing in the early 80s he proved his mixing abilities by becoming the Technics / DMC World DJ Champion in 1987.
A flyer with Chad’s name on it meant queues outside iconic clubs like Legends and the Hacienda and the infamous Wigan Pier in Manchester, where he became known for playing the newly emerged electro funk sound. Primal Architecture artist Linder (Ludus) was one of those early followers of the new sound and has been dancing to Chad’s music ever since. Linder will back on the dancefloor this Friday night, following the opening of her exhibition earlier that evening.
Chad released the chart topping Hear the Drummer (Get Wicked) in 1990 and his mixes on Manchester’s Piccadilly/Key 103 radio station had all of North West Britain poised with fingers on the tape-deck record button. The original cassettes are highly prized but thanks to the joys of digital you can hear his best of ’85 and best of ’84 mixes on soundcloud.
We’re delighted to be bringing Chad over to close the RISING, for one of his first Irish appearances in many years. Tickets are priced just €10 and are available online here. Our previous music events at IMMA have all sold out, so get yours in advance to avoid disappointment!
Doors open at 8pm, with live acts starting from 9pm until very late. There will be a full bar and Le Petit Camion will be back in the courtyard with tasty eats.
PRIMAL RISING will follow the opening of IMMA’s two new exhibitions; Primal Architecture and Duncan Campbell. You are welcome to join us for the opening reception from 6pm. The opening of Primal Architecture includes the following live artist performances:
Kevin Atherton, Timepiece (1974–2014)
6.00 – 7.00pm, IMMA Courtyard
Bedwyr Williams, 20º (2014)
7.15pm, IMMA, First Floor, Landing
