Join Direct Energy and Trib Total Media as they support community volunteerism and toast to the top five finalists of the 2nd annual Pittsburgh Volunteer Citizen of the Year award! Designed to acknowledge the valuable contribution made by volunteers to communities served by Trib Total Media newspapers, the Pittsburgh Volunteer Citizen of the Year award recognizes the city's unsung heroes that made their communities a better place to live.
The five finalists for the 2012 Volunteer Citizen of the Year award program are as follows:
- Teresa Amelio, North Hills Community Outreach
- Lutual & Sarah Love, A+ Schools
- Maria Vondas, Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia
- Carol McCaskey, Deer Lakes School District's Backpack Initiative to Fight Hunger
- Roberta Hall, Wallace Avenue Soup Kitchen of Naomi's Way
WPXI-TV's Jennifer Abney will serve as the emcee for this event where one winner will be announced during a special award ceremony. That winner will receive a $5,000 for their nonprofit organization, as well as a $1,000 cash prize. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated among the remaining four semi-finalists' nonprofit organizations.
After the award ceremony, all guests will have the opportunity to tour the exhibits at the Senator John Heinz History Center, including the Western PA Sports Museum and any Smithsonian-affiliated exhibit.
The dress code for this event is cocktail attire.
