Music Night On Jupiter and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh (GLCC) present Joe Stevens, with special guests Great Caesar and Night Lights.

Joe Stevens:

California-based singer/songwriter, guitar and banjoman, Joe Stevens is a third-generation professional musician in a long line of restless westward moving souls. From his roots as an awkward kid with a debilitating stutter, through dark years of alcohol and drug addiction, Joe's music touches on themes at once specific and ubiquitous, portraying the human condition distilled — where one person's story is truly everyone's story. A prolific writer, the muse began whispering at the age of fifteen and Joe has produced some untold thousands of songs and essays in his 32 years. Joe is the main songwriter in the Alt-Americana group Coyote Grace, who released five albums between 2006 and 2012 and toured with the Indigo Girls, Melissa Ferrick, and Girlyman; sharing stages with Chris Pureka, Greensky Bluegrass, Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band, and legends such as Cris Williamson and Lowen and Navarro.

Joe's music rides the edge of the first wave of transgender performers to break through into the public consciousness. The social media explosion combined with shifting public opinion created the conditions that enabled trans and queer artists, a highly marginalized and often isolated subculture, to connect and gain visibility throughout the world. Joe performs and gives workshops on songwriting and queer/trans issues at colleges and universities and is a social justice activist for underdogs of all stripes, committed to honoring their vital contributions to the greater collective evolution.

Great Caesar:

True to their name, Great Caesar is not little in the least. They began as a jazz trio, added three members, and kept the brass. Years later, now with six dudes and horns galore, this originally Connecticut-based band has moved to Brooklyn. Great Caesar's strength is in the explosiveness it can pack. Brass-fueled oomph and joined in voices add extra horsepower and elevate pop moments to high heights. The video for the band’s newly released equality anthem “Don’t Ask Me Why” is a portrayal of the agonizing struggle of three imagined couples who contend with hatred and abuse from friends and family unsupportive of their interracial or homosexual relationships. Its hopeful ending has inspired thousands of viewers to share the video with friends on social media.

What started as a song and the dream of “fighting homophobia through storytelling” has evolved into a video that has been covered by the likes of MTV and national LGBT magazine The Advocate. Sikes says, “It’s surreal. So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive across the board, and we are beyond excited.” In addition to releasing “Don’t Ask Me Why”, the band just finished recording a four-song EP, and they’re likely to wrap up a full-length album later this year.

Night Lights: 

With members from Mexico, Texas, Japan, California, and Norway, Night Lights brings together an eclectic assortment of indie, rock, and soul influenced sounds in an effort to make people dance and feel feelings. 

The Boston-based band met in 2012, and has since discovered a balance between profound lyrics, hooky melodies, danceable music, and intriguing harmonic progressions. Their songs touch on the subject of existentialism and the confrontation of the self, hoping to discover a truth grounded in music, community, and conversation.

Drew's warped soundscapes, Yusuke's intricate riffs, Jeff's melodic bass lines, Dag's colorful rhythmic creations, and Mau's captivating melodies & other-worldly voice effects all come together to take you on an unparalleled audio adventure.
